Humbling

Here is a link to a sad story about a tragedy that befell  a family with what appeared to be everything going for it. Money, education, contacts; all of the things that ease one's way up the ladder into a comfortable life - yet it all went horribly, tragically, wrong.

One's heart must go out to the bereaved family.  The lesson here is not one for those who grieve, but  rather for the many of us who set out in life with what we may see as an assured path to success.

  1. Let us not forget that the same types of tragedy befall some 'who set out in life' without 'what they see as an assured path to success'.

  2. Anybody else think that 'pre-moderation' (how does that differ from 'moderation'?) risks redundant comments, and non sequiters ?

  3. I am afraid that pre-moderation (i.e. nothing goes on until one of the team has cleared it) is a necessary evil given the weight of spam and trolling that we are seeing at the moment. Tedious, I know, but there are enough saddos out there to force our hand.

  4. "from their £9,500-a-month rented house". There's no story too sad for the Mail not to mention house prices.

  5. Umm it is off topic (nothing to do with Hurd) but I would like your professional advice. What sentence would you pass for Criminal Damage property of police valued at £60?

    1. We are afraid that we cannot do advice. There is a link to the Guidelines at the top of the page, and that will give you an idea of the range of likely outcomes

    2. What's the sentence for announcing on your blog that you are standing for police commissioner and this turns out to be a lie?

O/T but surely a shocking calumny?

Posts are pre-moderated. Please bear with us if this takes a little time, but the number of bores and obsessives was getting out of hand, as were the fake comments advertising rubbish.
